Brazil 2-1 Argentina

Brazil defeat Argentina 2-1 in the first leg of the Superclasico of Americas on Sep. 20th.

Peru 1-1 Argentina

Argentina held on to top spot in the South American qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ with an lacklustre 1-1 draw at Peru.

Alejandro Sabella’s men were way below their best and they fell behind to Carlos Zambrano’s opener – after Claudio Pizarro had missed from the penalty spot – before Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain levelled matters. The draw helped Argentina stay on top by one point, ahead of Colombia and Ecuador respectively.

Argentina 3-1 Paraguay

There were no such mishaps for Argentina, who are looking down on everyone after easing to a 3-1 win over Paraguay. Alejandro Sabella’s men were in commanding form, with the Real Madrid-Barcelona connection of Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi working well for them in attack. All three players were on target as the hosts earned their sixth straight win, the Barça ace capping another polished displayed by scoring his first free-kick on national duty to make it ten goals in his last six matches for his country.
